Do all roads lead to God? Yes.

A good friend of mine posted an article by Oprah about how she believes there is more than one way to God.  Let me start off by saying in big, bold letters.... I AGREE 100% Wait....what?   We will all stand before God one day.  So, yes.  No matter what road we are on, we will get to God.  But the road doesn't end there.  Romans 14:10, 12 says that "Each of us will stand personally before the judgement seat of God, each of us will give a personal account to God."  This awaits us all.  Every. Single. One. Of. Us.  We will all have to account for our lives to Him.   2 Corinthians also says that we will appear before the judgement seat of Christ so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things we did, whether good or bad. Matthew 7:21 says that not every one that says to Him, "Lord, Lord" shall enter the kingdom of Heaven, but only the ones that do the will of His Father which is in Heaven.   So...what d...

Does God Have A Sense Of Humor?

I know what you are thinking.  Of course, He has a sense of humor...He made you, Gregg and that's funny!  Yeah.  There's that.  Usually people refer to the platypus as God's sense of humor, but anyway...moving on. The Bible does say we are made in God's image, and for the most part, people enjoy a good laugh.  I, for one, love dad jokes. Admit it! You do too.  But let's look at some example of God's humor throughout scripture. Just as a disclaimer, not all of these examples may seem funny to us "hardened Westerners" who are used to today's often raunchy comedy, as well as,  some of this gets lost in translation, but all of the below examples were considered humorous at the times they were written.  Genesis has several stories that contain humor (though the platypus isn't actually mentioned in Genesis, this is where He created all things). I mean...when Abraham and Sarah received the  message that they were going to have a baby, they both laug...

Am I Too Old To Be Doing Music?

Today, a friend mine, totally in jest, mentioned someone having a mid-life crisis and deciding to make an album.  (It was funny, you had to be there).  I  mentioned that I actually just released my 12th album and that I released my first in 1998.  I then mentioned that I was only 4 when I started playing, so he joked and asked if I had an early life crisis. Anyway, like I said, it was funny, but it got me thinking.  So many artists today are in their mid to late teens, and early 20s.  Pretty much all the "new" artists are, and the same can be said for your top 40 radio songs.  I wonder why that is.  Nearly all the musicians I draw musical inspiration from are my age and older.  (I'm 52). There are a few exceptions, but honestly, not many.  Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the younger music.  Quite a bit.  It's not like it was when I was younger where parents had their kind of music and then there was "the music kids listen to the...

Review - Starmaps & Constellations by Surreal

This is a band I recently discovered.  They are a progressive pop band.  You can definitely hear influences of Dream Theater, but without the metal in your face sound.  You can even hear a bit of Neal Morse, without the 20+ minute songs of complex, ear exhausting instrumental jams. Don't get me wrong.  I love both of those bands, but they can get a bit exhausting to listen to after a while. The production is top notch all throughout, with not a single "weak" spot.   Surreal is not like that.  I can listen to them all day, every day.  They just released their 2nd album, "Starmaps & Constellations" and it is even better than their first album, "The Rush." It opens with a really amazing track called "Orion" which really reminds me of a band called Atticus Fault, at least until the near dubstep break just after the middle of the song.  This song is one of my favorites as it is almost an ambient rock hybrid.  I know that makes no se...

Welcome to Midiblog 2.0

I wanted to bring back my blog site so I can write more about what's on my mind rather than posting it all on Facebook.  What's funny, is when I signed in, it had me create a new site, even though I knew I had at least 3 other blogs. I figured Google must have deleted them, because it's likely been 10+ years since I posted on any of them.  So, when it asked me what to name it, it kept saying it wasn't available.  So I tried another one.  Still not available.  So I tried yet another one.  Still not available.  Yep.  Those my three other blogs.  I found them.  However, I can no longer edit them.   So, this is my 4th blog.  This will be the only one I update going forward.   This blog won't just be limited to my music.  I may talk about other music I enjoy.  I may review albums from time to time.  I may talk about something completely non music related.  It's my blog.  I'll talk about what I...
